Katee Norris is one of our amazing alums who has levered her impact as a service member into a job and now a career with that organization. She tells a bit about her story and advice to current members or those considering AmeriCorps service.

I moved to Arizona in 2012 after completing one year of AmeriCorps in Federal Way, WA in the school systems, knowing I wanted to do more years of service. I started in 2012 as a VISTA for Prescott Area Shelter Services and it has changed my life forever. AmeriCorps brings about a sense of community that I had never experienced before and not only did  I create many life long friendships during my two years of service for Arizona Serve and I learned so much about myself and the kind of person I wanted to be. After working two years at PASS as a VISTA I was hired full time and I have been the Director of Programs ever since. The work the shelter does for women and children in need is so valuable and I feel lucky that I was able to get a job at PASS through my time as a VISTA. We are grateful that Arizona Serve continues to contact us every year for the MLK Day of Service as it really helps us to have projects done at PASS. Since completing my three years of service in AmeriCorps I have learned the importance of taking action to help others, that everyone can make a difference and there is no time like the present to make that happen.
