Tucson AmeriCorps VISTA member Kianah Israel, serving with the United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona, invites you to serve low income families in Tucson, gain valuable professional knowledge, and experience the camaraderie of volunteering by helping with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program:
Would you like to join United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona in empowering the lives of others? Each year, United Way provides free tax assistance for low to mid-income families through our established program Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA). The VITA program aims to help families avoid exorbitant tax prep fees, access all credits for which they are eligible, avoid predatory services during tax time, and connect families to services and programs that will help to establish an enriching economic lifestyle.
Free IRS-approved tax preparation training will be provided, so participants will have the opportunity to receive IRS certification up to the Advanced level with the possibility of Special Certification. Volunteers can determine their own schedules, and can accumulate over 100 hours of service hours.
The roles United Way is looking to fill are the following: tax preprarers, interview specialist, and greeters.
