"Center for Civic and Community Engagement at Yavapai College" By Angie Gross

My name is Angie Gross and I am the AmeriCorps VISTA working with Yavapai College in Prescott, AZ. My project for this year is bring sustainability to the service learning program, which is now transitioning to the Center for Civic and Community Engagement! One of my main focuses this year is capturing and documenting the projects that are happening on all of our campuses-and let me tell you our faculty and students are up to some crazy, cool stuff! From a film class creating a documentary on environmental issues in their community to a stress management course spreading positivity via tear off affirmations for students during finals, it is never a dull moment for what this college is up to. We are still totaling hours of civic engagement given for the semester: we are nearing 2,000 hours given-and the hours are still coming in.

As the semester winds up again next spring, new projects will take off and previous projects will start up once more. As we get moving after the holidays, we would love any feedback what our new Center for Civic and Community Engagement should look like: what projects are happening that we should be aware of or what projects should we spearhead? Please feel free to contact me at with your suggestions. This is a very new process for us and we are so excited and thrilled to see where it goes in regards to how we can better serve the various communities where Yavapai College lives!
